Verdasco vs Nadal 17.05.2019 – ATP Rome

Verdasco vs Nadal / ATP Rome – Most players went two times on tennis courts yesterday. Reason for that was postponing of all matches which should be played on Wednesday. This complicated day at the Masters in Rome was marked with unsportsmanlike conduct of N. Kyrgios. The Australian definitely needs a lesson in good manners as he cursed line umpire, kicked his equipment, broke racquet, throw chair, and in the end left the court followed by spectators booing.

Verdasco vs Nadal begins 17.05.2019 at 14:30 CET

F. Verdasco

Verdasco played two very good matches in one day, which was much better result than anyone expected. In the morning he eliminated D. Thiem, and in the afternoon he defeated K. Khachanov. Given Verdasco’s fairly modests results made before this season it was not expected that the Spaniard could win otherwise very good D. Thiem.

The Austrian was a great favourite in that match as he made far better results this season. In accordance with that he started match with Verdasco. Theim won the first set but that was all what the Austrian showed. Verdasco played much better in continuation of match and his persistence has paid off handsomely. Situation was similar in the second match of that day against Khachanov. Verdasco was again an outsider but he played excellently and was better in all statistical parameters.

R. Nadal

Nadal also played two matches in one day but it cannot be said that was a problem for him given that he very easily won both of them. The first match was with Chardy whom he sent off the court after 68 minutes with end result 6-0, 6-1. Basilasvili didn’t do any better and he was eliminated in a very similar way as Chardy. The difference is that the Georgian lost the second set with zero,  and won just one game in the first set.

Nadal should be pleased with those results, not so much because of sound victories, but because he spent very little time on tennis courts and didn’t tire too much. His previous results should worry him much more as it is hard to recall a season in which the Spaniard didn’t win a title on his favoured type of surface. That could be very worrying sign before coming Roland Garros.

Verdasco vs Nadal PICK

The two Spaniards met 19 times before and Nadal did much better as he won 16 matches and Verdasco just three. Nadal is quite clearly a great favourite to win the match, but we are of opinion that Verdasco is a bit underestimated and we expect to see larger number of games than offered.
