Tsitsipas vs Nadal / ATP Rome– Out of two semi-final matches we have chosen to analyse more attractive one between Greek S. Tsitsipas and Spaniard R. Nadal. Both of them played well here in Rome and this is going to be an interesting duel after their recently played match in Madrid. In the quarter-finals Nadal won F. Verdasco, while Tsitsipas didn’t have to face R. Federer.
Tsitsipas vs Nadal begins 18.05.2019 at 15:00 CET
Tsitsipas earned lot of ATP points with reaching the semi-finals of Masters in Madrid that allowed him to reach the best rating in his career so far and he arrived to Rome as World’s no. 7. The Greek is in very good shape, which can be seen through two titles won this season at tournaments in Marseille and Estoril. In those finals Tsitispas won M. Kukushkin and P. Cuevas, respectively.
Besides the final from Madrid the Greek was finalist of the tournament in Dubai where he lost to R. Federer. He played very good at the Australian Open where he reached his first ever Grand Slam semi-finals which he lost to R. Nadal. Regarding matches played previous here in Rome Tsitispas had no problems in two previous rounds, while he hadn’t have to face Federer as the Swiss retire.
We wrote about Nadal results made this season in our previous analysis and now we will pay more attention to developments in the quarter-final match with Verdasco. We must say that we had expected far more attractive match than then one we saw. The main reason for absence of uncertainly was Verdasco who literally played just half a match.
Verdasco was equal opponent to Nadal and in certain moments a better player on the court. This is true for the first set in which Verdasco put up an expected level of resistance. Nadal had problems to win points after service which gave Verdasco plenty of chances to make break. As it usually happen, missed chances were duly punished near the end of the first set that Nadal wins. Being aware of missed chances Verdasco surrendered in continuation of match and he hasn’t won a single game in the second set, which was kind of childish approach from such highly ranked player.
Tsitsipas vs Nadal PICK
Head-to-head score between the two players is 3-1 for Nadal. Although it is perhaps more important that Tsitsipas won their most recent match played in the semi-finals of Masters in Madrid. That was a painful defeat for Nadal and he has to forget the result, if it is possible. The Spaniard is again a great favourite to win but he didn’t play up to expectations in last couple of tournaments. Tsitsipas is beaming with self-confidence and this could be a longer match, just like it was the one in Madrid.
