Russian Premier League /Spartak Moscow vs Sochi – New football season in Russia started last week with the Super Cup match when Lokomotiv Moscow defeated reigning champion Zenit in the VTB Arena in Moscow by 3-2. Sochi played last year in the Russian second division, Russian Football National League – FNL, in which it ended up at the second place and together with 1st-placed Tambov earned direct promotion to the Premier League, which is their biggest success so far. Sochi won 69 points, four fewer than the winner but they scored 63 goals, eight more than Tambov. Sochi received only 34 goals, one less than the champion.

Besides defeat by Spartak from three weeks ago when Kartich scored the only goal for Sochi, they also played a friendly with Spartak last year and lost 0-2. After losing to Spartak, they won before official start of new season Radnicki Nis from Serbia by 2-0 and winner of the Croatian Cup Rijeka 2-1. Scorers in match with Rijeka were Karapetyan and Pesegov.
