Shapovalov – Chardy / ATP Toronto – The second analysis of the first round of Masters in Toronto will cover match between Canadian D. Shapovalov and French J. Chardy. The winner of the match will face either F. Fognini or S. Johnson in the second round. This is the second match between Shapovalov and Chardy, where the Canadian won the first one. Begins: 07.08.2018 – 18:00 CET
Shapovalov is professional player for just one year and he already reached the 23rd place in the ATP list. Given that is he only 19 years old it is clear that he poses a great potential for which we hope it will not remain unused since there are many of such cases. Although he hasn’t won the ATP title the Canadian has solid win/loss ratio this season 20-17.
Shapovalov made the first noteworthy result at the tournament in Delray Beach where he reached the semi-finals and lost to F. Tiafoe. Following Delray Beach he reached the fourth round of the Masters in Miami, where he lost to B. Coric after a great struggle. We cannot put aside the semi-finals of the Masters in Madrid when Shapovalov lost to A. Zverev.
Chardy is also in a solid shape if we judge by his win/loss ratio this season 20-14. The French occupies solid, 43rd place in the ATP list but that is far from his best that he held in 2013 and when he was World’s no. 25. Unlike his today’s opponent Chardy is far more experienced as he competes at the ATP Tour since 2005.
In all those time Chardy won one ATP title, which happened at the tournament in Stuttgart 2009. Chardy was close to win his second title this season when he played in the final of tournament in Hertogenbosch but he lost to his compatriot R. Gasquet. Reaching the semi-finals of tournament in London was also noteworthy, where Cardy lost to N. Djokovic.
