Berankis vs. Khachanov / ATP Montpellier – After the Australian Open where Federer successfully defend the title and showed that is one of best tennis players of all times, tennis circus moved to Europe where will play several indoor tournaments in the coming period. Three tournaments of 250 Series are played this week; in Montpellier, Sofia and Quito. This analysis covers match of the second round of tournament in Montpellier between R. Berankis and K. Khachanov. Begins: 08.02.2018 – 12:00 CET
Berankis is Lithuanian players for whom was stated that possess a great talent but which didn’t materialise in the right way. His best ATP position so far was 50th place that he held two years ago. He comes to this year’s tournament in Montpellier as World’s no. 117. In 11 years of professional career Bernakis hasn’t won a single ATP title, although he played in two ATP finals.
At the beginning of 2018 Bernakis played at the tournament in Sydney where he reached the second round after going through qualifications in which was outplayed by A. Mannarin. At the Australian Open he lost in the first round to S. Wawrinka. Berankis made the best result in previous year in Moscow, where he played in one of this two finals, and he lost the final match to D. Dzumhur.
Khachanov is young Russian player who took part in last year’s tournament for players younger than 21, Next Gen Finals, which ended for him in the group phase after one victory and two defeats. Khachanov made the best rating in his career around mid-2017 when he was World’s no. 29. The rating is much lower before today’s match in Montpellier and the Russian currently occupies 49th place in the ATP list.
Khachanov won the only title in his career that started 2013 at the tournament in Chengdu two seasons ago, where he defeated A. Ramos in the final match. We could say that Khachanov solidly opened this season given that he reached the quarter-finals of the first tournament he played in Auckland. He was stopped then by Del Potro, while after that the same Argentinian defeated him in the second round of Australian Open. We need to say that Khachanov put up a solid resistance in both those matches and he played even three tie-breaks.
