Herbert vs. Muller / ATP Indian Wells – French P. Herbert and Luxembourgian G. Muller will face each other in the second round of ATP tournament in Indian Wells. Herbert’s opponent in the first round was his compatriot G. Simon whom he dispatched by 2-1 in sets, while Muller, being the 27th seed was free in the first round. Begins: 11.03.2018 – 20:00 CET
Herbert achieves much better results in men’s doubles where he is among 13 best double players in the world. Situation in men’s single is not so good for the French who occupied the 93rt position in the ATP rank list before coming to Indian Wells. Herbert’s rating was much better six months ago when he was higher ranked for 30 placed than it is now. He didn’t win an ATP title in his career, although he played in one final, which happened at the tournament in Winston-Salem in 2015.
This season Herbert has made for him roughly average results given he won six and lost the same number of matches. He made the best result at the beginning of season in Pune where he reached the quarter-finals but he lost the match to M. Cilic. After that the French couldn’t go further than the first round of the Australian Open where he lost to D. Istomin, while all other tournaments before Indian Wells had ended for him in second rounds.
Muller also reached the best rating in his career last year when he was World’s no. 21. Muller didn’t spoil the rating much till today’s day given that he came to Indian Wells being the 27th ranked player in the ATP list. In 17 years of professional career the Luxembourgian won two ATP titles, both last year when he won tournaments in Sydney and s-Hertogenbosch.
This season Muller’s win/loss ratio is negative 5-6. One of his better results was when he reached the third round of the Australian Open. He was stopped then by P. Carreno-Busta, while after that he reached the quarter-finals of tournament is Sofia, where he lost to M. Copil. Muller played the last official match before the tournament in Indian Wells in Marseille where he lost to N. Mahut in the second round.
P. Herbert – G. Muller PICK
The two players haven’t met before and based on what they have showed this season we could conclude that they are in similar shape. Overall, Muller made better results in his career but he doesn’t play on that level this season, which is why we believe that Herbert could be an equal opponent and consequently we would play on larger number of games.
