Nigeria vs South Africa 10.07.2019 – African Cup of Nations

African Cup of Nations / Nigeria vs South Africa – Nigeria and RSA will meet in the second quarter-final match of the African Cup of Nations. Neither of teams participated in the previous ACN, while Nigeria skipped last two Cups, however, it managed to eliminated in the round of 16 the reigning champion Cameroon, while RSA did the same to the host, Egypt, so it can be said that both teams, besides making a notable success, have created great surprises.

Game Nigeria vs South Africa begins 10.07.2019 at 21:00 CET

Nigeria

Nigeria was in a much easier group and six points was enough to end up at the second place in the Group B, right behind Madagascar. They won Burundi and Guinea by 1-0 in the group and lost to Madagascar 0-2, but in the round of 16 Nigeria scored more goals than in all three matches played in the group phase and after turning the result up-side down they defeated Cameroon 3-2.

Nigeria took the first lead but after the first half they were trailing behind 1-2. In the second half they turned the result up-side down in just three minutes; Odian Ighalo scored in 63 minute and Alexa Iwobi three minutes later. The Nigerians didn’t stop attacking after that but near the finish of match they changed tactic and have focused on not receiving a goal, in which they have succeeded.

Probable lineups Nigeria: Akpeyi- Awaziem, Aina, Omeruo, Troosrt Ekong- Iwobi, Etebo, Ndidi- Simon, Musa, Ighalo.

South Africa

South Africa has shocked the host of the tournament Egypt, that is led by Mohamed Salah, and thanks to Thembinokosi Lorch who scored in the 85th minute has reached the quarter-finals. RSA managed to defend itself in the first half from objectively better host, while in the second time it created equilibrium on the pitch. RSA put in good use a chance from counter-attack and eliminated the host.

RSA had ended the group phase at mere third place in the Group D with just one victory and two defeats, and negative goal difference 1-2. They reached the round of 16 as the last best fourth-placed team and its first opponent in the knockout stage was Namibia which they won by 1-0. Interestingly, they lost both matches by the same result 0-1, to Ivory Coast and Morocco.

Probable lineups South Africa: Williams- Hlanti, Mkhize, Hlatshwayo, Mkhwanazi- Zungu- Furman, Tau, Mokotjo, Mothiba, Lorch.

Betting Pick: Nigeria vs South Africa

Both teams have done a great job in the round of 16 and showed they came to Egypt well prepared although it couldn’t be seen at the beginning of the tournament when their results weren’t promising. Reaching the semi-finals definitely raises stakes for both teams and we don’t expect many goals but having all taken into consideration we would play on Nigeria’s victory.
