Nadal vs Khachanov 15.03.2019 – ATP Indian Wells

Nadal vs Khachanov / ATP Indian Wells – The second quarter-final match that we are going to analyse is one between World’s no. 2 R. Nadal and young Russian K. Khachanov. In the round of 16 Nadal effortlessly defeated F. Krajinovic, while Khachanov eliminated American J. Isner.

Nadal vs Khachanov begins 15.03.2019 at 21:00 CET

R. Nadal

Nadal is slowly recovering from debacle suffered in the final of Australian Open that he lost to N. Djokovic. The Spaniard couldn’t do a thing against excellent Djokovic then despite great ambition. After the Australian Open Nadal appeared in Acapulco where he surprisingly lost to N. Kyrgios in the second round. That was Nadal’s second defeat this season, while before ATP Indian Wells he won seven matches.

Nadal was stopped in the fourth round of ATP Indian Wells last year when he lost to R. Federer. The Spaniard won this tournament three times and he did so the last time in 2013 when he defeated J.M. Del Potro in the final. In the round of 16 Nadal had no trouble to outplay F. Krajinovic. Serbian player put up a solid resistnace but Nadal played at expected level, which was enough for victory in two sets.

K. Khachanov

Khachanov didn’t continue with results from the previous season given his negative win/loss score 4-5. Previous season was the best so far for young Russian. Accordingly, Khachanov reached the best ATP rating last year when he was World’s no. 11. Before the ATP Indian Wells his rating went down a bit and Khachanov currently occupies the 13th place in the ATP rank list.

Khachanov won four ATP titles so far out of which even three last season. He won tournaments in Marseille, Moscow and Masters in Paris. Title from Paris is at the same time the most important title that Khachanov won so far. The Russian played the best this season at the Australian Open where he reached the third round when he lost to R. Bautista-Agut.

Nadal vs Khachanov PICK

Head-to-head score between the two players is 5-0 for Nadal. The Spaniard won all their matches but he didn’t easily win all of them. The best example of that are results from Masters in Toronto 7-6, 6-4 and the US Open 5-7, 7-5, 7-6, 7-6. It can be seen that Nadal had to give its best in order to win. There is no doubt that Nadal is again a great favourite to win but we believe that Khachanov is good enough player to put up a serious resistance to Nadal.
