Match Medvedev vs Zverev begins 13.10.2019 at 10:30 CET
We have said before on several occasion that Medvedev plays the best in his career and that took him to the final of ATP Shaghai. The Russian was regarded as a favourite to win the semi-final match with very good Greek S. Tsitsipas, player who eliminated N. Djokovic in the quarter-finals. Tennis fans has enjoyed in an excellent match, full of attractive points and uncertainty. Medvedev was far more focused in key moments of the match and he reached the final without dropping a set.
Tsitsipas missed a great chance in the ninth game of the first set when he had three consecutive break-points in Medvedev’s service game. The Russian pulled himself from the trouble with excellent service, after which he won the first set in the tie-break. The second set was a bit more interesting given that three breaks were played where the key one was the one in the 11th game when Tsitsipas served for the tie-break. The Greek’s hand was shaky and very good Medvedev used the chance to win and reach the final.
We have criticised Zverev’s form and results in several previous analyses and the reason for that was that the German lost number of matches this season to opponents that he was supposed to win without any problems. That reflected on his win/loss ratio and number of won titles, however, Zverev finally seems decently self-confident at the Masters in Shanghai, which he showed in the quarter-finals when he defeated R. Federer.
The German played well in the semi-finals when he defeated young Italian M. Berrettini 6-3, 6-4. Although the results seems sound enough it was in fact an uncertain match in which the Italian had weak moments that Zverev, unlike some previous matches, was able to exploit in full. In accordance with the above mentioned results the entire statistic was on Zverev’s side, who especially dominated in parameters related to the service.
