ATP Montreal / Medvedev vs Khachanov – In the semi-finals of the Masters in Montreal we will see clash between two currently best Russian players; D. Medvedev and K. Khachanov. Both players easily and soundly defeated their quarter-finals’ opponents; Medvedev outplayed D. Thiem, while Khachanov dispatched A. Zverev.
Match Medvedev vs Khachanov begins 10.08.2019 at 20:00 CET
Just as we assumed Medvedev used well playing at tournaments that use fast surface before ATP Montreal, which gave him an upper hand in the quarter-final match with D. Thiem. The Austrian recently played at tournaments that use slower surfaces he came to Montreal after winning the title in Kitzbuhel. On the other hand, Medvedev played several very good matches in Washington and reached the final that he lost to N. Kyrgios.
So, the Russian was better prepared for the hard and fast surface, and Thiem didn’t have much chance to make better result. Medvedev needed less than an hour to finish the match that ended as 6-3, 6-1 in his favour. Clearly, only four games won were too little for a player like Thiem, but the Austrian couldn't have hoped for a better result since he didn't have a break point in the whole match.
In several previous analyses we wrote that Zverev doesn’t play at the expected level. He fluctuates too much and K. Khachanov proved that in the quarterfinals when he defeated the German. Khachanov currently occupied the 8th place in the ATP rank list and this is at the same time the best rating in his career. Despite the rating Khachanov's results cannot satisfy his fans as he won only 18 matches this season and was defeated 17 times.
The Russian won four ATP titles in six year long professional career, three of which in the last year. Khachanov won the most valuable title near the end of last year when he won the Masters in Paris. He made the best results this season in Indian Wells and Roland Garros, where he reached the quarter-finals when he lost to R. Nadal and D. Thiem, respectively.
Betting Pick: Medvedev vs Khachanov
The two players met twice before and each of them won one match. Medvedev and Khachanov are similar in many ways and there is no doubt that both will fight till the last atom of strength in order to reach the final. Still, when we put together all results made this season Medvedev is the one who left stronger impression and we again give him an advantage to pass the round or in other words to reach the final.
