Manchester City vs Tottenham 17.08.2019 – Premier League

Premier League / Manchester City vs Tottenham – Saturday’s programme of the 2nd round of the English Premier League ends with a great derby at Etihad where reigning champion Manchester City meets Tottenham, which finished at the 4th place last season. Both teams started the new season with victories and this will be a rerun of the Champions League quarter-finals last season when Tottenham had an upper hand. Manchester City won both their league matches by 1-0.

Game Manchester City vs Tottenham begins 17.08.2019 at 18:30 CET

Manchester City

Manchester City started defence of the champion’s title in a grand style, or more precisely the race for the third consecutive title. Before that came at the Etihad the first title this season, as they defeated Liverpool in the Community Shield. They didn't do it in the regular time as the result read 1-1, but they succeeded after the penalty shootout and it's was title they also managed to defend. At the beginning of the Premier League they again played in London with West Ham that has a pretty good team this season.

Despite that Manchester City absolutely dominated and they taught the home team a good lesson, where the final 0-5 shows clearly what happened during. Compared to match with Liverpool stopper Laporta was back in the team and Otamendi stayed on the bench. B. Silva also stayed on the bench, while L. Sane couldn’t play because of injury. Mahrez and G. Jesus were starts and that turned out really well. Forward Sterling is in great shape, who scored a hat-trick against West Ham. He was also a scorer against Liverpool so he has an advantage over Aguero for position in the team. It is possible that the same team like in the first round will play now.

Probable lineups Manchester City: Ederson – Walker, Stones, Laporte, Zinchenko – Rodri, de Bruyne, D. Silva – Mahrez, G. Jesus, Sterling

Tottenham

Tottenham started the season as the Vice-Champion of Europe that will be a big burden when the Champions League starts. In the Premiership the Spurs won the fourth place and that was a satisfactory position. They occupied the third for a long time, however, the most important thing is they will again have chance to compete in the most prestigious club competition in Europe. They want to make a step further in the English championship, or in English competitions and after several seasons without bringing reinforcements the Spurs went shopping this summer. They first brough midfielder Ndombele from Lyon  then near the end of the transfer window they brought two more midfielders, Lo Celso from Betis and Sessegnon from Fulham.

The last two haven’t played yet, and Sessegnon certainly won't in this match as well since he is injured. That's why Ndombele was a starter in the first round against Aston Villa and he scored right away. It was a difficult home match as they received an early goal and then struggled before above mentioned Ndombele equalised. It didn't seem like he would even beat the new Premier League, but H.Kane stepped in to finish the game with a triumph. The Spurs were weakened with absence of Son and Dele Alli, won’t play again but Eriksen is ready.

Probable lineups Tottenham: Lloris – Walker-Peters, Alderweireld, D. Sanchez, D. Rose – Winks, Ndombele, Sissoko – Eriksen – L. Moura, H. Kane
