Cilic vs. G. Simon / ATP Pune – Next analysis of the tennis courts will be dedicated to a new tournament on the ATP calendar that is played in Pune. The tournament is played on a hard ground for a $ 500,000 prize pool, and we will analyze the semi-final duel between Croat M. Cilic and Francis G. Simon. Both tennis players have overcome their opponents in the quarterfinals without any major problems, and this will be the derby match of the current part of tournament. Begins: 05.01.2018. – 12:30 CET

M. Cilic

Cilic is staring begins the season as the 6th world player, and the best rating he had Was just over two months ago when he was in fourth place in the ATP ranking. In his professional career, Cilic managed to win 17 ATP titles, the most significant of which is the one from US Open in 2014. We could say that Cicic did not make the best use of the last season's absence of some of the best tennis players, as he managed to win only one ATP title at the tournament in Istanbul, where he defeated M. Raonic in the finals.

With this title, Cilic achieved the best results on grassy ground so he played the finals of the Queen's Club tournament that he had lost to F. Lopez and had an excellent performance at Wimbledon where he played in the final match against R. Federer and suffered defeat without winning any sets. On this occasion we will mention only the placement in the quarterfinals of Roland Garros where he was better than S. Wawrinka.

G. Simon

Simon was far from his past season's achievements, and this is best confirmed by his current position at the ATP ranking in which he occupies only 89th place. The Frenchman had the best career rating nine years ago when he was the 6th player of the world. In the past 16 years of professional tennis, Simon has managed to win 12 ATP titles and the last of them is from 2015 from the tournament in Marseille.

We have nothing to special to mention when it comes to Simon's results in the previous year. He had one of the best appearances at the Australian Open, where he played third round in which he was better than M. Roanic, and then played two quarter-finals of the 250th category in Marseille and Lyon. In these matches, he was defeated by J.W. Tsonga and T. Berdych. Simon ended all other tournaments last year in the first two rounds.
