Pouille vs. Seppi / ATP Rome – Several matches of the first round of the Masters in Rome are finished and P. Gojovczyk, L. Sonego, J. Sock, S. Johnson and R. Harrison have reached the second round. One of unfinished matches of the first round that should be quite interesting is one between French L. Pouille and Spanish A. Seppi. Begins: 15.05.2018 – 11:00 CET
Two months ago Pouille squeezed into the Top 10 players of the worlds, which was at the same time the best rating in his career. It went down a bit before the Masters in Rome, or more precisely the French now occupies the 16th place in the ATP list. Since the beginning of year Pouille won 13 matches and lost eight. He won five ATP titles in his career out of which one this season at the tournament in Montpellier.
Pouille had defeated his compatriot R. Gasquet in the final of that the ATP Montpellier and besides that tournament the French played in two more finals, in Marseille and Dubai, but lost to K. Khachanov and R. Bautista-Agut, respectively. Regarding tournaments that are played on clay surface, Pouille made significantly weaker results and failed to win a single match, which is not at all encouraging for the French ahead of the beginning of Masters in Rome.
Seppi is slowly but surely entering “calm waters” in regard of his tennis career, but the Italian is still capable to torment his opponents, especially when he enjoys great support from the stand, which will be the case in Rome. At the moment Seppi occupies the 49th place in the ATP list, which is quite far from his best rating that he held in 2013 when he was World’s no. 18.
This season Seppi won 12 and lost nine matches, and he won the last out of three titles in total in 2013 when he triumphed in Mosocw. Seppi played well at the Australian Open where he reached the quarter-finals when he lost to K. Edmund. He made one of better results this season at the tournament in Rotterdam, where he reached the semi-finals in which he lost to R. Federer. It is worth mentioning the he reached the semi-final of the tournament in Budapest, where Seppi was eliminated by his compatriot M. Cecchinato.
L. Pouille – A. Seppi PICK
The two players met just once and that happened in the Davis Cup this year. Pouille won 3-1 in sets and we expect to see something similar in Rome. Pouille is better ranked player but he cannot boast with good results on clay courts this season, which is why we believe that Seppi could win at least one set.
Pick: Seppi +1.5 sets
Odds: 1.53 at 10bet (down to 1.49 can be played)
