Khachanov vs Thiem / ATP Paris – The semi-finals of the Paris Masters brings us two very interesting matches and we will analyse duel between K.Khachanov and D. Thiem. Khachanov outplayed A. Zverev in the quarter-finals, while Thiem dispatched title defender from the previous season J. Sock.
Khachanov vs Thiem begins 03.11.2018 at 14:00 CET
Unlike some other young tennis players K. Khacchanov has justified expectations this season and reached the best rating in his career so far. The Russian comes to Paris as World’s no. 18, having win/loss ratio 40-22 this season. Besides reaching the best rating Khachanov won two titles this season out of three in total. He won tournaments in Marseille and Moscow, where he defeated two French players in final matches, L. Pouille and A. Mannarin.
This is the second semi-final match for Khachanov at ATP Master 1000 Series tournament. He reached the first one in Toronto this season, where he expectedly lost to R. Nadal. Khachanov totally outplayed favoured A. Zverev in the quarter-finals of the tournament in Paris. That wasn’t the first match in which Zverev heavily underperformed but just three won games against Khachanov were way below even the most pessimistic expectations.
Although he experienced drop of his rating this year Thiem should be satisfied with achieved results, especially if he qualifies for the ATP Finals in London. The Austrian won three ATP titles this year and has very good win/loss ratio 50-17. Besides the titles, Thiem played in two great finals this year, at the Roland Garros and Masters in Madrid, where he lost to A. Zverev and R. Nadal, respectively.
If we analyse his results the impression is that Thiem plays much better on clay courts, on which he won eight of his 11 titles. Accordingly, the Austrian should improve his game on fast surface if he wants to be more competitive in the race for the very top of the ATP list. In the quarter-finals of Paris Masters Thiem managed to annul lead of last year’s winner J. Sock and reach the semi-finals winning the match by 2-1 in sets.
