Sock vs. Zverev / ATP Finals London – This is decisive match in the Group B that will determine who goes to the semi-finals. Both players, American J. Sock and German A. Zverev, have after first two rounds by one victory and defeat. Both had defeated M. Cilic and expectedly lost to R. Federer. Begins: 16.11.2017 – 21:00 CET
Sock showed in the second round of group phase that is in fairly good shape that allowed him to win the most valuable title so far this season that comes from the Masters in Paris. Cilic felt that in their match who despite lead of 1-0 in sets still managed to lose to the American. The match was expectedly uncertain given that both players are good serves and we had seen large number of games.
Pre-start anxiety was present on both sides of the court and we had seen two quick breaks, one on each side. By the end of set, or more precisely in the 12th game Cilic made the second break that gave him significant advantage but, as it later turned out, it was not enough to win. Sock was better in continuation of match for exactly what he needed to win. The American used all his chances while Cilic hasn’t. Proof of that is statistic that says Cilic was better in most of important statistical parameters despite losing the match.
Zverev won M. Cilic after three sets in the first round, but in the second his opponent was first favourite R. Federer. Young German played very well despite losing the match. The two players were equal opponents and we got winner of the first set only after tie-break where Federer was luckier despite Zverev’s advantage of two mini breaks in the 13th game.
Federer missed to materialise good chance in the second set when he had advantage of one break. Zverev was hit by crisis in moments after losing the first set but by the end of second set he pulled himself together and won the set. In that was Federer was forced to play the third, decisive set in which he showed once again that still belongs to the top of world’s tennis. In the third set the Swiss made even three breaks which was more than enough to win.
