Iceland vs Turkey / EURO 2020 Qualifiers – This is one of more interesting matches of the 4th qualifying round given that situation in the Group H is very interesting. Turkey won France last Saturday and it occupies the first place having perfect score, while Iceland is the 3rd and has three points fewer after Saturday’s victory over Albania. The two teams met the last time in 2017 and then Iceland won away by 3-0.
Iceland vs Turkey begins 11.06.2019 at 20:45 CET
We can say that Iceland did well at the beginning of this qualifying cycle, despite losing one match. They suffered a heavy defeat in France, where they lost by 4-0, while they expectedly defeated Moldova away and Albania at home. Last Saturday they faced Albania and the outcome was very important for the Icelanders. They won thanks to Gudmundson who scored around middle of the first half for the final 1-0. Team that suffered such heavy defeat in France had expectedly undergone several changes. Hermannsson and Skulason played on flanks, and Kjartansson was the lone striker. Now, the team will probably stay the same like in match with Albania.
Probable lineups Iceland: Halldorsson – Hermannsson, Arnason, R. Sigurdsson, Skulason – Gudmundsson, Gunnarsson, B. Bjarnason, Sigurjonsson – G. Sigurdsson – Kjartansson
Turks are in collective euphoria because their national team didn’t have such a good start of the qualification for a very long time. They won all three matches with a clean sheet, and they scored eight goals. Winning two friendlies, with Greece and Uzbekistan, came as the icing on the cake. However, victory achieved last Saturday against the reigning world champions, the French, was a special story. The match ended as 2-0 for Turkey which scored both goals in the first half, while after that they managed to stop all French attacks and save their goal. The Turks did all this without Tosuna, who is injured, while Calhanoglu stayed on the bench. We believe that well known proverb “Don’t change a winning team” will be applied here and team that won France will also face Iceland.
Probable lineups Turkey: Mert – Celik, Ayhan, Demiral, Ali Kaldirim – Mahmut, Dorukhan, Can, Karaman – Under, Burak Yilmaz
Iceland vs Turkey PICK
Turkey had a perfect start of the qualifications and now can play more relaxedly, up to the point that would easily accept a draw. Iceland doesn’t play that well but they will play at home where they are always dangerous. Still, we expect a hard match with a few goals.
