ATP Wimbledon / Halep vs Williams – After all quarter-finalist become known it was expected that S. Halep and S. Williams will play in the last match. Both players outplayed their semi-finals opponents; Halep won E. Svitolina, while Williams totally outclassed B. Strycova.
Match Halep vs Williams begins 13.07.2019 at 15:00 CET
After starting nervousness during which Halep and Svitolina needed even 20 minutes to play first two games Halep took the initiative and won its opponent without much trouble. We should add that before the match Halep had reason to be worried as it had negative win/loss ratio against the Ukrainian player. Still, Halep has confirmed on the court its statement that she is in a great shape and very self-confident.
Svitolina couldn’t find the right rhythm and establish her recognisable play style. She seemed too nervous and she won no service games in the first set. Halep faced a bit better resistance of her opponent in the second set but Svitolina couldn’t sustain the pressure and lost two service games in a row near the end of set. We need to add that absolutely all statistic was on side of the Romanian player.
Williams dispatches the last obstacle towards her 11th Wimbledon finals in just one hour. B. Strycova suffered a heavy defeat in the semi-finals and she managed to win only three games in the whole match. After such debacle it is hard to say anything as we saw a total domination of one player who hasn’t allowed her opponent a single chance to turn the result up-side down.
Strycova had three break points but she failed to put in good use a single one of them. On the other hand Williams has very good realisation of break points 4/5 and that was more than enough for a sound victory. Out of statistical data it is worth mentioning ratio of directly won points 28-8, and we will also mention the first service that was 89% – 52% for Williams.
Betting Pick: Halep vs Williams
Head-to-head score between the two players is by far on Williams’ side, 9-1. They met once this season, at the Australian Open and Williams won 6-1, 4-6, 6-4. That is good enough reason to declare the American as a great favourite to win, although Halep made a very positive impression and we believe that she is at the moment the only player who could seriously endanger Williams on grass. That is why we expect that spectator enjoy in very interesting and uncertain match compared to the semi-finals and we forecast a larger number of games.
