ATP Wimbledon / Halep vs Svitolina – Simona Halep was the first semi-finalist in the women’s singles. In the previous round Help defeated S. Zhang without dropping a set, while her opponent in the semi-finals is E. Svitolina who also needed just two sets to dispatch K. Muchova.
Match Halep vs Svitolina begins 11.07.2019 at 14:00 CET
Halep has justified predictions and won Chinese S. Zhang in the quarter-finals. The Romanian needed one hour and half to reach her second semi-finals in Wimbledon. She did that the first time five years ago when she lost to E. Bouchard in the semi-finals. Last year’s Wimbledon had finished for Halep already in the third round when she lost to Su-Wei Hsieh. Halep had started this season as World’s no. 1 but she has lost significant number of points before Wimbleond which is why she currently occupies the 7th place in the WTA rank list.
The Romanian won 18 WTA titles in her career but not a single one this season. Regarding the quarter-final match with S. Zhang we need to say that Halep was visible nervous and it was not surprising since she has negative win/loss ratio with the Chinese. Zhang started better and had advantage 4-1 in the first set but that was not enough to defeat very combative Nalep.
With reaching the semi-finals of the ATP Wimbledon Svitolina made her best result at Grand Slam tournaments. The Ukrainian played the best at the Australian Open and Roland Garros where she both times played in the quarter-finals. It is interesting that befire Svitolina never passed the second round in Wimbledon, while last season she was stopped right after the first match.
Svitolina currently occupies the 8th place in the WTA list, and before Wimbledon she had modest win/loss ratio 14-11. In nine-year long professional career the Ukrainian won 13 WTA titles out of which four last season, but none this year. Svitolina had a significant backlog in the quarter-final match with K. Muchova but she started to play much better from around middle of first set and fully deservedly defeated her opponent.
Betting Pick: Halep vs Svitolina
Svitolina is a bit more successful in previous matches with Halep and she won four matches, while Halep had an upper hand three times. Regardless of negative win/loss ratio we believe that Halep left much better impression so far in Wimbledon. Svitolina was quite lucky in earlier matches and we are of opinion that Halep is in better shape right now, so we expect to see the Romanian in the final.
