ATP Cincinnati / Goffin vs Fritz – After the Masters in Monteral where R. Nadal won the title the tennis circus moves south, to Cincinnati where another Master 1000 series tournament will be played. N. Djokovic is the title defender, who defeated R. Federer in the final last year. However, return of A. Murray draws the biggest attention and who faced R. Gasquet in the first round.
Match Goffin vs Fritz begins 13.08.2019 at 17:00 CET
Goffin plays in hot-cold rhythm this season. This is not what we used to expect from the Belgian in last couples of seasons when he was regular participant of final stages of almost every tournament he appeared at. The situation is quite different this season, which can be seen through his current win/loss ratio that slightly positive 22-18. Goffin finished season 2017 at the very good 7th place in the ATP rank list, which was also the best rating of his career so far.
Before the tournament in Cincinnati his rating went down and the Belgian currently occupies the 19th place. Goffin won four ATP titles so far, the most in 2017 when he won tournaments in Shenzhen and Tokyo. He played the best this year at the tournament in Halle, where he reached the final but lost to R. Federer.
Fritz is one of younger American tennis players who didn’t live up to high expectations. He is 21-year old tennis player who is considered one of the more promising players of the younger generation. However, no one from their generation still cannot parry the Big 3 who still won all the major titles.
Still, the American can be pleased with what he achieved this season given that he finally won his first ATP title that he won in Eastbourne after winning S. Querrey in the final. Besides, Fritz played in two more finals but was defeated by A. de Minaur and D. Schwartzman. All this helped him to improve his ATP ranking this season, which is the 25th position that he still occupies right now.
Betting Pick: Goffin vs Fritz
This will be the first ever match between these two players at an ATP tournament. Neither of them is in particularly good shape and we expect a match between two equal opponents. The Belgian is more experienced and is regarded as a favourite to win, but Fritz recently reached two finals at lower ranked tournaments and on top of it will enjoy support from domestic audience. When we put all these factors together it seems as the most probable outcome that we could easily see a bit longer match with relatively larger number of games.
