Ferrer vs Bautista-Agut 07.05.2019 – ATP Madrid

Ferrer vs Bautista-Agut / ATP Madrid – First eight seeds of the Masters in Madrid will not play in the first round and we are forced to analyse match between lower ranked players. Among them is D. Ferrer, who faces his compatriot R. Bautista-Agut in the first round.

Ferrer vs Bautista-Agut begins 07.05.2019 at 12:00 CET

D. Ferrer

Not so long ago Ferrer was one of the best tennis players at the ATP Tour. He is a great fighter who never surrenders and thanks to that characteristic he earned admiration from large number of tennis fans. Given his veteran age and recent problems with injuries, it was no wonder that the Spaniard slide down at the current 144th position in the ATP list. We remind you that Ferrer was World’s no. 3 in mid-2013.

In 19-year long professional career Ferrer won 27 titles, out of which the last one in 2017 at the tournament in Bastadu. Ferrer didn’t play often this season and his win/loss ratio is 7-5. He played the best this season in Miami and Barcelona, where he reached the third round, when he lost to F. Tiafoe and R. Nadal, respectively.

R. Bautista-Agut

Bautista-Agut had an excellent start of the season but it seems that his form is slowly but surely moving in downward trajectory in last couple of tournaments. This Spaniard started to lose matches to objectively weaker players. Bad day can happen to every athlete but the current situation is such that bad days have regularly occurred at last couple of tournaments. However, thanks to great start of the season Bautista-Agut still has a positive win/loss ratio 15- 5.

Right now Bautista-Agut occupies the 21st position in the ATP rank list, which is a bit weaker rating than his best that he held near the end of 2016 when he was World’s no. 13. He won nine ATP titles in his career, one of which this season at the tournament in Doha, where he defeated T. Berdych in the final. He played very good at the Australian Open, where he reached the quarter-finals when he lost to S. Tsitsipas.

Ferrer vs Bautista-Agut PICK

The two Spaniards have met three times so far but neither of matches was played on clay courts. If we take a closer look at their results made in previous years we can see that Bautista-Agut should be considered as a favourite to win on this type of surface. However, we expect that Ferrer plays combatively, which was his characteristic throughout the entire career, and consequently we would play on larger number of games.
