Game England vs. France begins 18.06.2019 at 21:00 CET

England

England had no problems in the qualifications for the European U-21 Championship and they indeed did a routine job. They won eight matches and drew twice with the biggest competitor in their qualifying group, the Netherlands. Young Three Lions played well in the previous year and that includes friendlies. They won seven of them drew only once, with Mexico. However, they played two matches this year but won neither of them.

They played those two matches in March and they firstly drew with Poland 1-1, and then lost to Germany 2-1. We should add that the English lost to the Germans in the semi-finals of the European Championship 2017 after penalty shootout and couldn’t revenge even in a friendly. They were close to draw but they received the second goal in the added time. Manager Boothroyd sent completely different teams on the pitch in those two games, while in the meantime some players dropped out from the national team so again there will be changes compared to team that faceed Germany.

Probable lineups England: Gunn – Wan-Bissaka, Tomori, Clarke-Slater, Dasilva – Foden, Choudhury – D. Gray, Maddison, Sessegnon – Calvert-Lewin

France

The French hadn’t appeared at the previous European Championship from two years ago and by that it is clear that they want to make a good result at this championship. The French showed their quality in the qualifications; they played really good and won nine matches and drew only one, with Slovenia in the last round. Interestingly, they played rather pretty badly friendly matches in the previous year when they only won Turkey. The French lost to Switzerland and drew four remaining matches. Opponents in those duels were quite strong and they drew the second match with Switzerland, than with Croatia and Spain. The young French made variable results this year; they won only one match out of four played.

They drew with Germany, won Belgium, and lost to Denmark and Austria, which was the last test before the European Championship. The French have many good players and manager Ripoll can change and combine in each match, but after winning Belgium he didn’t change much for match with Austria, which the French lost by 3-1. Niakhate and Amian were refreshments in defence, while now Dagba and Upamecano could get chance. Several important players like Diallo and Ndombele are missing from the team.

Probable lineups France: Bernardoni – Dagba, Konate, Upamecano, Ballo-Toure – Aouar, Tousart – Reine-Adelaide, Ikone, Bamba – Dembele

Betting Pick: England vs. France

Individual quality of both teams is undisputed and it can be said that England and France are roughly equal opponents, which is why it is difficult to say who is more likely to win. Both have problems in recent friendlies but this is the European Championship and players will give their maximum. Our forecast is that both teams will score.

Pick: both teams to score
