Eintracht Frankfurt vs Benfica 18.04.2019 – Europa League

Eintracht Frankfurt vs Benfica / Europa League – The most efficient and interesting 1st quarter-final leg of the Europa League was match between the two teams, where Benfica had an upper hand. They won by 4-2 in Lisbon and that is nice stash of points ahead of rematch if we take into account quality of both teams, however, Eintracht has showed that it should be never written off in advance. The first match with Benfica was very exhausting and they lost in the Bundesliga on Sunday, while the Portuguese team routinely won. This is going to be their first ever mach in Frankfurt.

Eintracht Frankfurt vs Benfica begins 18.04.2019 at 21:00 CET

Eintracht Frankfurt

It seems that Eintracht is losing steam in the finish of season. They did very well in this calendar year in the Bundesliga, and were excellent in the Europa League from the very beginning of the competition. Still, condensed rhythm of matches has started to take its toll and Eintracht lost two matches in a row. They lost in Lisbon for the first time in the Europa League and at the same time it was the first defeat in this calendar year, while on Sunday they lost for the first time in the Bundesliga in the second part of season.

Regarding away match with Benfica, Ndick was sent off very early and it was clear that a thorny path is ahead of them, especially as penalty was awarded to Benfica at the same time. However, Eintracht scored two goals despite having just 10 players and that keeps the hope alive, although they received four goals. They were first to take lead in match with Augsburg on Sunday but then had received two goals and again one of their players was sent off. This time it was G. Fernandes and they lost by 3-1 in the end. Stopper Ndick cannot play now and we expect to see a very offensive set-up.

Probable lineups Eintracht Frankfurt: Trapp – Abraham, Hinteregger, Hasebe – da Costa, Rode, G. Fernandes, Kostic – Rebic – Haller, Jovic

Benfica

Benfica did a good job in the 1st leg, or more precisely it used the offered chance as the rival was left with 10 players after just 20 minutes of match. Still, it is worrying sign that Benfica received two goals at home having one player more on the pitch. That shouldn’t have happened but they opted for maximally offensive football in order to exploit numerical advantage. Young star Joao Felix had his day, who finally showed why he is Benfica’s the most expensive player at the moment. He scored a hat trick and assisted with the fourth goal.

Unlike their hosts Benfica didn’t make a wrong move last weekend. It expectedly won Setubal at home, interestingly enough again by 4-2. J. Felix scored again, but Rafa Silva scored two goals and Pizzi missed the penalty. There were several refreshments in the team, which was logical given they have to be careful in the rematch. There are no new problems with injuries and compared to the 1st match there could be a couple of  changes as we expect Seferovic, Pizzi and Florentino among starters.

Probable lineups Benfica: Vlachodimos – Almeida, Dias, Jardel, Grimaldo – Fejsa, Florentino, Pizzi, Rafa Silva – Seferovic, J. Felix

Eintracht Frankfurt vs Benfica PICK

Eintracht played every offensively outside its stadium despite having a player less and it scored two goals. Now, they have nothing to wait for and will certain attack again, which will open room for Benfica forwards, so this could be another very efficient match.
