Match Djokovic vs Federer begins 14.07.2019 at 15:00 CET
Djokovic had fully justified predictions and totally outplayed Spaniard R. Bautista-Agut in the first semi-final match. Still, it wasn’t an easy match for the World’s no. 1 regardless that it might seem if we look only at the end result. Nole seemed pretty nervous and that was fully understandable given that he already lost twice to Bautista-Agut this season. Spectators mostly supported Bautista-Agut but it turned out that helped Nole in a way.
The first set was quite important and Djokovic easily won it with two breaks. However, the persistent Spaniard didn’t surrender and he used Djokovic’s moment of relaxation in the second set and we quickly had a tied result on the screen. In those moments Djokovic’s recognisable fighting spirit kicked in and he fully dominated next two sets. In accordance with the result Djokovic was better in almost all statistical parameters.
After the semi-final match in Wimbledon no one has right to speak about retiring of R. Federer. The Swiss has no reason to retire as he seemed nimbler than most of younger colleagues who have been already eliminated from the tournament. It was a true pleasure to watch Federer demonstrating his skills on grass court despite fact that his opponent was R. Nadal.
Two tennis masters were a close match but Federer showed that grass coust suits him nicely, which number of titles won on this type of surface confirms. Nadal didn’t play badly, on the contrary, the Spanaird showed that he can play well on grass but Federer had an upper hand in the most important moments. The Swiss took a lead after tie-break but Rafa expressly fought back. Still, Federer was far more aggressive and he scored more winners 51-32, and on top of it he moved to the net more often and was more successful with drop shots.
Betting Pick: Djokovic vs Federer
Djokovic is a bit more successful in head-to-head with Federer as he won 25 such matches and the Swiss 22. Regarding Wimbledon the two of them met three times; Federer won in the semi-finals 2012, while Djokovic defeated Federer in two finals played in 2014 and 2015. All those matches were quite uncertain, which is totally understandable given that the two players are of similar quality. Bookmakers give advantage to Djokovic, but we have seen that Federer played excellently on this type of surface. Besides, it can be expected that most of audience will support Federer and that is very important psychological moment that will affect both players but in different ways. When we put all this together there is no reason to expect another uncertain match and we consequently we expect larger number of sets.
