Djokovic vs Cilic 18.08.2018 – ATP Cincinnati

Djokovic vs Cilic / ATP Cincinnati – The 18th match between N. Djokovic and M. Cilic is worth a place in the final of Masters in Cincinnati. Djokovic needed three sets to defeat M. Raonic, while Cilic outplayed much easier than expected Spaniard P. Carreno-Busta.

Djokovic vs Cilic begins 18.08.2018 at 20:00 CET

N. Djokovic

Djokovic finally won a major title this season, which he achieved at the Wimbledon where he defeated K. Anderson in the final. The result put back Djokovic among Top 10 players in the world and increased total number of titles at 69. His win/loss ration this season 27-10 indicates that his form is in upward trajectory. Besides the final in Wimbledon Djokovic reached the final of the Queen’s Club but he lost right to M. Cilic.

It is interesting that Masters in Cincinnati is the only tournament of Series 1000 that Djokovic hasn’t won. The Serbian player had played in even five finals of the tournament but he lost four and was forced to withdrawn from one. Although he plays better and better this season Djokovic doesn’t win with ease. He regularly struggles and lose at least by one set, and that drain his energy.

M. Cilic

Cilic won his first and only Masters title right in Cincinnati. It happened in 2016 when he defeated in the final A. Murray, which was a huge surprise, who then World’s no. 1. Of course, that was not Cilic’s best result in his career given that he won the US Open in 2014, when he outplayed K. Nishikori in the final without dropping a set.

The Croatian player won 18 titles in his career, out of which the last one was won this season at the Queen’s Club. Recently finished tournament in Toronto had ended for Cilic in the quarter-finals where he lost to R. Nadal after three sets. Cilic made one of his best results this year at the Australian Open where he reached the final but lost to R. Federer, but we must add that he was fully equal opponent in that match.

Djokovic vs Cilic PICK

Out of previous 17 head-to-head Djokovic won 15 matches, while Cilic won just two. Many things will depend from Cilic’s first service as when it works everything is possible. However, Djokovic plays better and better and we deem that he is in a bit better shape at the moment, which is why we expect him to win.
