Goffin vs Mannarino / ATP Tokyo – Belgian D. Goffin is a finalist of the tournament in Tokyo for the second year in a row, while his opponent is French A. Mannarino. In very interesting semi-finals Goffin outplayed D. Schwartzman, while Mannarino defeated M. Cilic. Begins: 08.10.2017 – 09:00 CET
After Szenzhen Goffin continues to play well in Tokyo, where he again reached the final in which will face A Mannarin. Exactly seven days ago Goffin played in the final of tournament in Shenzhen, where he won his third title in career after a great battle with A. Dolgopolov. To reach the final in Tokyo the Belgian had to defeat very good D. Schwartzman, which he managed after two tie breaks.
Both players were equal competitors and only nuances decided that Goffin be the one who will play in the final. We saw no breaks in the first set where Goffin had the only chance to make it in the second game. He also won the 13th game, although it was Schwartzman who had the first advantage. In the second set two breaks were made, one by each player. The winner of the match was decided in another tie-break in which the Belgian was again luckier.
Mannrino made a smallish surprise in the semi-final as he eliminated the first seed M. Cilic. Croatian player had better opened the match and he first had advantage of 1-0 after winning the tie-break of the first set. Near the end of second set we witnessed a true drama. Mannarino made an advantage of one break which Cilic annulled in the following game. However, when he served to stay in the match, the result was 4-5 in Mannarino’s favoure, Cilic failed to win a single point in his service game.
That left a nasty psychological scar on the Croatian player who wasn’t able to win a single game in the decisive third set. In that way Mannarino won the third set without any problems and reached the fourth final in his career. This is a great chance for him to finally win his first ATP title in career.
D. Goffin – A. Mannarino PICK
Goffin won both previously played matches with Mannarino. The two of them met the last time in 2014 in Basel and the result read at the end 6-4, 6-3. The French will surely do all in his power to finally win his first title, but Goffin is definitely in a fairly good shape and he is the favourite to win.
