Premier League / Chelsea vs Leicester – Next-to-last match of the 2nd round is one of more interesting as neither of teams won in the 1st round and scored no goals. Chelsea soundly lost the derby at Old Trafford, while Leicester played a goalless draw at home. In the meantime Chelsea lost the title in the UEFA Super Cup, while last season Leicester surprisingly won at Stamford Bridge by 0-1. Chelsea didn’t score a single goal in previous three league matches with Leicester.
Game Chelsea vs Leicester begins 18.08.2019 at 17:30 CET
The third match this season for Chelsea and the first at home. The previous two won't be remembered by good, especially visiting match with Manchester United in the first round of the Premier League. They lost by even 4-0 to their big rival and this is of course a very bad thin for their self-confidence, although realistically they didn’t play that badly and had their chances while the result was still reachable. They didn’t use them and were duly punished for that. The strongest team didn’t play as new manager Lampard had experimented a bit. He left Kante on the bench and it is known fact that he is the most important link in the midfield.
Giroud started on the bench, just like newcomer Pulisic. It turned out badly and they played with the stronger team the UEFA Super Cup with Liverpool in Istanbul on Wednesday and that immediately brought better results. They didn’t win the title but only because of a lack of focus during penalty shootout. They did well on the pitch and the result read 2-2 after 120 minutes. Still out of action are Loftus-Cheek and Hudson-Odoi, while Rudiger and Willian are questionable for this match.
Probable lineups Chelsea: Arrizabalaga – Azpilicueta, Zouma, A. Christensen, M. Alonso – Jorginho, Kante – Pulisic, Kovacic, Pedro – Giroud
Leicester faced Wolverhampton at home in the first round and couldn’t win. The match ended as a goalless draw and it's hard to say how much it is a failure when it is known fact how unpleasant the Wolves are, which they clarly showed last season. Leicester wanted to win the Europa League last season and failed, and it was Wolverhampton who won the last European position. Therefore, they had a motive to win but that wasn’t enough. Near the end of the transfer window Leicester lost starting stopper Maguire and this probably shook them, although there were no significant departures before that.
They brought forward A. Perez and bought contract of several players, like Tielemans, and some have returned from loans. Since they sold Maguire and earned a nice sum they decided to buy midfielder Praet from Sampdoria. He was on the bench against Wolverhampton, while A.Perez played from the first minute as one of the biggest reinforcements. It is probably still too early for Praet to be in the starting line-up and we don’t expect any changes in the team compared to the first round.
Probable lineups Leicester: Schmeichel – R. Pereira, Soyuncu, Evans, Chilwell – Tielemans, Ndidi – A. Perez, Choufhury, Maddison – Vardy
Betting Pick: Chelsea vs Leicester
Chelsea was soundly defeated in the first round but it didn’t play badly, and it played even better against Liverpool. The Blues will play for the first time now at their stadium and we expect to get reward for good game and win. Leicester is not a naive team but it is not likely that will manage to surprise at Stamford Bridge for the second year in a row.
