Chardy vs Coric / Davis Cup – National teams of France and Croatia will play the final of the Davis Cup in period November 23 – 25. The final will take place in Stade Pierre Mauoy in Lille where France will try to defend the title won last year when it defeated Belgium in the final. J. Chardy and B. Coric will play for the first point. Chardy got advantage over a bit better ranked L. Pouille but that is not surprising since the French have a fair deal of problems with injuries of their best players.
Chardy vs Coric begins 23.11.2018 at 14:00 CET
Chardy currently occupies the 40th place in the ATP list and he had the best rating five years ago in 2013 when he was World’s no. 25. In 13-year long professional career Chardy has managed to win just one ATP title, which happened in Stuttgard 2009 when he defeated V. Hanescu in the final. Like almost all French players Chardy had modest win/loss ratio this year 24-22.
The French made the best result at the tournament in Istanbul that is played on clay courts. He reached the semi-finals when he lost to T. Daniel, who was then 114th ranked player. Out of his other results on this type of surface we should mention the Roland Garros where Chardy couldn’t go further than the second round when he lost to his compatriot P. Herbert. We need to mention that Chardy didn’t play a single match against Spain in the semi-finals.
Coric reached the 12th place in the ATP list 15 days ago, which is at the same time the best rating in his career. The young Croatian has managed to win two ATP titles so far, including one this season in Halle, where he defeated R. Federer in the final. Coric won his first ATP title on clay courts at the tournament in Marrakech where he defeated P. Kohlschreiber after turning the result up-side down.
The Croatian player’s win/loss ratio this season is 39-20. He played two matches in the semi-finals of the Davis cup with S. Johnson and F. Tiafoe and he won both. Coric didn’t make a name for himself in other matches on this type of surface and the third round of Masters in Madrid and Roland Garros were his final reach. The Croat lost to D. Thiem and D. Schwartzman, respectively.
Chardy vs Coric PICK
Chardy and Coric had met three times before and the French won two and the Croat won one match. Results made this season favour Coris but we should take into account that Chardy will play in front of his audience and on top of it he did well in the past on this type of surface. When we put all this together, both players have chance to win and uncertainty and larger number of sets seem as very realistic outcome.
