Arsenal vs Stade Rennes 14.03.2019 – Europa League

Arsenal vs Stade Rennes / Europa League – Ahead of first duell between these two rivals Arsenal was huge favourite, but now we have a different situation. At home Rennes celebrated 3:1, which is nice advantage, but it is not unreachable especially when Arsenal plays at home-field. Gunners recovered from this defeat very quickly and last sunday they won league-duell. Same weeknd Rennes also won their league-duell, once again 3:1.

Arsenal vs Stade Rennes begins 14.03.2019 at 21:00 CET

After a series of bit easier matches that Arsenal maximally used to improve his chances to reach the Champions League next season it plays now a series of more demanding matches and results vary. We should add that Arsenal had problems in the Europa League round of 33, or more precisely it struggled in the 1st leg with Bate Borisov away and in the end lost the match. It effortlessly annulled the backlog in rematch and now they hope to repeat all that, although the opponent is more difficult and backlog is bigger.

Nothing suggested such outcome as Arsenal was first to take lead; Iwobi scored in practically the first serious attack of the match. Its problems started near the end of first half when stopper Sokratis was sent off and the home team equalises from set piece. Arsenal received two more goals in the second half having 10 players and situation got maximally complicated. Sunday’s match with Manchester United that Arsenal won by 2-0 showed how to annul the backlog. They did have a bit of luck but their self-confidence is at high level.

Probable lineups Arsenal: P. Cech – Mustafi, Koscielny, Monreal – Maitland-Niles, G. Xhaka, Torreira, Kolasinac – Ramsey, Iwobi – Lacazette

Stade Rennes

Rennes has nice advantage but they are quite surely aware that real test of their ability is yet to come. Way how they scored two goals in the 1st leg invites caution because as long as the guests were complete they had a lead. Later on Rennes got its chance and it used it. They could hardly imagine a better result, especially after they received the first goal so early. Of course, there is sorry for not scoring at least one goal, but they will quite surely have their changes at the Emirates. Two facts speak in their favour.

Rennes eliminated Betis in the previous round with excellent away victory of 3-1, and they have five-game unbeaten streak including the Cup. Interestingly enough, Rennes faced Caen at home on Sunday and they received the first goal, but later on the visiting team was left with 10 players and Rennes won by 3-1. Bourigeaud again scored the equaliser although the team was a bit different. Compared to the 1st leg H. Traore will now replace Zeffane.

Probable lineups Stade Rennes: Koubek – H. Traore, da Silva, Mexer, Bensebaini – Sarr, Andre, Grenier, Bourigeaud – Ben Arfa, Hunou

Arsenal vs Stade Rennes PICK

Arsenal is quite surely a much stronger team than Rennes but the 1st leg unfolded in an unexpected way. Now, the Gunners play at home and we don’t believe that will allow another red card, so Rennes will have a very difficult job. We forecast sound victory of the home team.
