Andujar vs Paire / ATP Marrakech – Two finalists of ATP Marrakech are title defender P. Andujar and French player B. Paire. Andujar reached the final after he defeated G. Simon far easier than expected, while Paire surprised when the turned the result up-side down and won J.W. Tsonga.
Andujar vs Paire begins 14.04.2019 at 15:00 CET
We wrote in our previous analysis that Andujar shouldn’t be underestimated at lesser ranked tournament played on clay courts, and that is exactly what the Spaniard proved in the semi-finals when he dropped just two games against G. Simon. The match lasted one hour and 15 minutes and Simon won just by one game in each set. Of course, such Simon’s performances are not worthy a semi-final, but in any case Andujar deserves congratulation for game he showed.
Andujar made by three breaks in each set. He had just one problem in his service game which happened in the last game of the match when Simon had the only chance to make break. Based on the result it is clear that all statistic is on Andujar side who has now chance to become champion of ATP Marrakech for the second time in a row.
Paire came to Marrakech as World’s no. 69. He had the best rating in his career at the beginning of 2016 when he occupied very good 18th place in the ATP list. In 12-year long professional career Paire won just one ATP title, which he managed to do in Bastad 2015 where he defeated T. Robredo in the final. Paire didn’t left an imposing impression so far this season given that he won only four and lost nine matches.
Regarding the semi-final match with Tsonga we can say that Paire played very good. His best moment of the match was quick recovery after losing first set. Tsonga was regarded as a favourite to win but Paire played much better after the first set and despite of trailing behind in the third set he won. Tsonga was expectedly better in 1st serve points won but all other important statistical parameters were on Peire’s side.
Andujar vs Paire PICK
The French player won all three previous matches with Andujar, but those were played a relatively long ago; the last one took place in 2013 and by that are not so relevant for today’s final. The French was far better ranked in the ATP list six years ago but right now he is close to the 70th place. Any final is specific match where both players usually give their maximum. Regardless of negative win-loss ratio this season Andujar left a stronger impression at the tournament which is why we believe that he can win Parie and defend the title in Marrakech.
