Efes played at the top level against Fenerbahce, and with victory of 19-point difference qualified for its first EuroLeague final. They lost semi-final matches two times before but it seems that phrase “third time’s the charm” really works and coach Ataman will definitely have an opportunity put together titles from the EuroLeague and EuroCup. If he succeeds he must fulfil his promise, to take the entire team to Ibiza after the final. Efes scored even 14 three-pointers against Fenerbahce and had 18 rebounds more, while at the same time they made 12 offensive rebounds.
After he finished the regular season averaging 11.5 points per game, Larkin increased that at 19.5 in the quarter-final series against Barcelona, while in the semi-final he simply exploded and against Fener he scored 30 points and had 7 rebounds and the same number of assists (he set new performance index record in the Final Four – 43). He had a huge help in Micic, who scored 25 points. Efes was losing at one point 19-22, but then it turns the result up-side down with 10-0 series which it kept until the end of game and fully deservedly reaches the final.
Probable lineups Anadolu Efes: Micic, Larkin, Simon, Moerman, Dunston
CSKA revenged to Real Madrid for the last year's defeat in the semi-finals of Final Four in a very “brutal” way. Real players and fans had started to celebrate the new finale at one point when they had a lead +14, but then Russian machine kicked into higher gear. CSKA started to melt Real’s lead and turned the result up-sided down in the last minute, which it crowned with cold-headed execution of free throws that sealed their victory 95-90. Real, especially coach Laso will complain on referees but when you drop 14-point advantage then referees cannot be blamed alone.
Heroes of victory, just like for Efes, were guards. De Colo scored 23 points, just like Real’s former playmaker Rodriguez, while Clyburn added his 18 points. CSKA turned the result in the last quarter, which it won by 30-17. The Muscovites trailed behind for full 38 minutes but they finished the game with 13-5 series, which led them to another final. They prevented Real to shoot for three points better than 29% while at the same time theirs was at very good 50%.
Probable lineups CSKA Moscow: De Colo, Hackett, Clyburn, Kurbanov, Hunter
Anadolu Efes vs CSKA Moscow PICK
CSKA won Efes both times this season. It firstly did so at home by sound point difference, while in Turkey CSKA won thanks to Higgins who set the final 80-78. What is very important to say is that Efes most dangerous duo Micic-Larkin was fully stopped in those two games. Since then the two of them have significantly improved their form. Having that in mind together with overall efficiency of both teams in the semi-final we can definitely expect a great final.
