AC Fiorentina vs. Atalanta Bergamo / Serie A – The last match of the sixth round of Italian Serie A is a showdown between two mid-table teams where 10th-placed Fiorentina has at the moment one points fewer than ninth-positioned Atalanta. Both teams opened the season with two consecutive defeats, but they played much better after that and are in fairly good shape ahead of their head-to-head. Regarding their matches played last year, it is interesting that both ended goalless. Begins: 24.09.2017 – 20:45 CET
Of course that both teams will try to change that now, especially as they significantly improved their form compared to the very start of new season. In those first two rounds Fiorentina was defeated away by Inter and at home by Sampdoria, but it won all six points from next two matches, after winning away Verona 5-0 and Bologna 2-0 at home. Then came away match with reigning champion Juventus which Fiorentina lost by 1-0 but only after a fierce resistance.
True, they played last half an hour of that match with one player fewer at the pitch as midfielder Badelj was sent off after he was issued second yellow card, so they couldn’t hope of nothing better than minimal defeat. However, coach Pioli can be satisfied with very good performances of his players against the Old Lady, so the only change in the starting line-up will be one that Piolo is forced to make where Sanchez will probably replace suspended Badelj.
Probable lineups AC Fiorentina: Sportiello – Gaspar, Astori, Pezzella, Biraghi – Veretout, Sanchez – Chiesa, Benassi, Thereau – Simeone
We have said in the introduction that guests from Bergamo had opened the new season with two consecutive defeats, to Roma at home and Napoli away, but Atalanta used in the best possible way a bit easier schedule in following three rounds as it won at home Sassuolo 2-1 and Crotone 5-1, while it pulled off away draw with Chievo 1-1. In the meantime they perfectly did the first returnee match in the Europa League as they defeated at home very tough Everton by even 3-0.
All this indicate that Atalanta is slowly but surely regaining its good form from end of previous season regardless that coach Gasperini lost this summer two standard starters, right back Conti and midfielder Kessie, while left back Spinazzola is still out of action due to injury. However, their replacements played well so far and we also need to add that besides Spinazzola on the list of injured players are currently only defender Castagne and midfielder Schmidt.
Probable lineups Atalanta Bergamo: Berisha – Masiello, Caldara, Toloi – Hateboer, de Roon, Freuler, Gosens – Ilicic, Gomez – Petagna
