Olympique Lyon vs. Paris Saint-Germain / Ligue 1 – We have a very interesting duel at the end of 14th round of French Ligue 1 between two great rivals and teams which ended last season at first two positions. However, at the moment neither of them is at the top of Ligue 1 as the position is reserved for Nice, while reigning champion PSG is just third and together with Monaco lags behind Nice for two points. Lyon is fourth and has big seven points fewer than the Parisians. The two teams met at the very beginning of season in the French Super Cup and then PSG won in Klagenfurt by 4-1, while last year they faced each other even five times; Lyon way better at home in the championship, while the Parisians also won in front of their fans in the League Cup, French Cup, championship and the Super Cup played at neutral ground in Montreal. Begins: 27.11.2016 – 20:45 CET
What encourages Lyon’s players ahead of the big derby is fact they didn’t lose to PSG at home in last two seasons, and they secretly hope to again make a favourable result against the reigning champion of France. Coach Genesio’s players are in great shape and out of last five matches they won four and drew one, in the fourth round of Champions League when they drew with Juventus in Turin 1-1.
However, before that they were defeated by the same opponent in Lyon, just like in the away match in Seville, while they won Dinamo Zagreb both times. Thanks to recent triumph in Zagreb and Sevilla’s defeat by Juventus, Lyon still has chance to reach the knockout phase but to achieve that they will need victory at home in the last round with two goals difference over the Andalusians. In the French championship, Lyon moved up at the fourth place after three wins in a row and now will face the Parsians in a much better mood, regardless that due to injuries they still cannot count on defender Jallet and midfielders Grenier and Ghezzal.
Probable lineups Olympique Lyon: Lopes – Rafael, Yanga-Mbiwa, Mammana, Morel – Gonalons – Cornet, Ferri, Tolisso, Rybus – Lacazette
We have said in the introduction that reigning champions of France currently occupy third place in the Ligue 1 standings, where they have the same number of points like second-placed Monaco, while leading Nice has three points more than the said duo. The Parisians have managed to find the right form after several not so good matches and won five and drew one match in the championship, while on the other hand they just continued with good results in the Champions League where they qualified for the knockout phase after just four rounds.
That is obviously not enough for them as they want to end as first positioned team in their group so last week they played an excellent match against Arsenal in London, which ended as a draw 2-2, so the Parisians need any kind of victory in the last round over Ludogorets in order to stay at the first position. Their thoughts are quite surely focused now on the great derby of the Ligue 1, which they want to win and create even bigger pressure on leading Nice. Goalkeeper Areola has returned in the team after recovery from injury, while on the other hand are still injured defender Kurzawa and midfielders Rabiot, Pastore and di Maria.
Probable lineups Paris Saint-Germain: Areola – Aurier, Silva, Marquinhos, Maxwell – Verratti, Motta, Matuidi – Lucas, Cavani, Jese
