AS Monaco vs Olympique Lyon 18.12.2016. – Ligue 1

AS Monaco vs. Olympique Lyon / Ligue 1 – This is a very interesting match at the end of the 18th round of the French Ligue 1, and it brings us two great rivals, and teams that this season represented their country in the Champions League. However, only Monaco passed in the next round, while Lyon will have to settle for the knockout phase of Europa League, since they finished third in their group. Otherwise, this team was unexpectedly eliminated from the French League Cup during last week, while they currently occupy fourth place in the championship with one game less and with as many as 11 points behind the second-ranked Monaco. However, what certainly attracts attention is the fact that their last mutual duels ended with a big home of Lyon with even 6-1, while before that they played two draws in a row in Monaco. Begins: 18.12.2016. – 20:45 CET

AS Monaco

That is why the hosts will on Sunday night give their best to finally inflict another defeat to their big rivals from Lyon, especially because they are in great shape at the moment. Namely, coach Jardim's players have long been undefeated in the championship, with the notion that they were in a particularly good mood in the last two rounds, because they first celebrated at home with 5-0 over Bastia, and after that in the difficult away match against Bordeaux with 4-0, so they now have only one point less than the leading Nice.

Between these two matches, they were defeated with 3-0  by Leverkusen away in the final round of the Champions League, but they have even before that secured first place in their group and therefore it is obvious there has been a little relaxation among the players. But it did not happen again last week in the League Cup, because Monaco's reservists celebrated with even 7-0 over the team of Rennes, while their main players on the other hand got more time to rest and will now be fully prepared for this big clash with Lyon. We should also add that coach Jardim currently has no problems with absences.

Probable lineups AS Monaco: Subašić – Sidibe, Glik, Jemerson, Mendy – Silva, Fabinho, Bakayoko, Lemar – Germain, Falcao

Olympique Lyon

Unlike Monaco, which in the best possible finished the job in the League Cup, Lyon's footballers have entered casually in the home match with Guingamp and they were punished for that in the end with the elimination after a penalty, given that the regular 90 minutes ended with  2-2. But we believe that they were already thinking about this duel with Monaco, because they certainly still want to continue this positive tradition against them, and try to come to a third consecutive victory in Ligue 1, given that they previously celebrated as guests with 6-0 against Nantes and then at home with 1-0 against Rennes.

Meanwhile, their duel with Metz was interrupted and the French Union will subsequently on the final outcome, so Lyon is still holding the fourth place in the standings and has a serious scoring gap for the leading trio, Nico, Monaco and PSG. Otherwise, coach Genesia's players have recently missed a great chance to qualify for the next round in the Champions League, because they played only 0-0 at a crucial match with Sevilla at home, so they will have to contend only with the knockout phase of Europa League. We should also add that only the injured midfielder Tolisso will not be able to perform in this match against Monaco.

Probable lineups Olympique Lyon: Lopes – Rafael, Yanga-Mbiwa, Diakhaby, Morel – Ferri, Gonalons, Darder – Ghezzal, Lacazette, Valbuena
