Greece vs Bosnia and Herzegovina 02.13.2016. – World Cup Qualifiers

Greece vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina / World Cup Qualifiers – In this group, we objectively have three teams that will fight for the first place, while the second will be as a consolation prize, but someone will have to end up there. These are the two candidates that are objectively fighting for the second place, but we can say that Belgium is still first favourite, although the Greeks still have not played with them. That is why they have the maximum of three wins, because Gibraltar, Cyprus and Estonia, are not up to the Greeks, although this team was desperate in last qualifiers. Bosnia and Herzegovina celebrated in two games in which they were the favourite, against Estonia and Cyprus at home, provided that they suffered an away defeat by Belgium and therefore have a backlog of three points. These two teams met in the qualifiers for the last World Cup and it was 0-0 in Athens, while Bosnia and Herzegovina celebrated at home with 3-1. Begins: 02.13.2016. – 20:45 CET

These were very important qualifiers for the Greece, because in the past they were really disastrous, and allowed themselves by some very weak teams. They were led in the new cycle by the German expert Michael Skibbe and for now they are looking quite good, but the real qualifiers for the Greeks are in fact beginning with this game. Of course, their precondition to remain in the game was to defeat those weaker rivals, and they did it routinely. Gibraltar has indeed scored a goal, but it was 4-1 at the end, and Cyprus and Estonia have mastered them with 2-0 and their defence looked very good.

They mastered Estonia in the last round away and it is a selection this is a team against which the favourites often “slip”, so they can certainly be satisfied. But what they cannot be satisfied with is the friendly match against Belarus which was played on Wednesday and in which they were defeated with 1-0, so we can freely say that this match was a surplus and it only ruined the atmosphere in the team, although they did not play at full strength. Because of the injury, they cannot count on center-back Manolas and midfielder Tachtsidis for this match against Bosnia and Herzegovina, while all the others are available to the coach.

Probable lineups Greece: Karnezis – Torosidis, Sokratis, Tzavellas, Stafylidis – Maniatis, Tziolis – Fortounis, Mantalos, Karelis – Mitrogolu

Bosnia and Herzegovina

Bosnia and Herzegovina also have not qualified for the European Championship this year and they certainly  want to make sure they do not miss two big competitions in a row, but it cannot be said that they have started very well and somehow it seems that they can even now forget about the first place and turn to the fight for the second, and the placement in the playoffs. However, the playoffs are usually very unfortunate for Bosnia and Herzegovina and they have never managed to qualify through this additional playoff, however, this is their reality now, given that they were severely mastered in Brussels by Belgium with 4-0. This has moved them away from the first place and the pressure is now big before this match with Greece, because if they lose again, it will be difficult to reach even that second place, even though Bosnia and Herzegovina easily won two weaker rivals with whom they played before.

They were the hosts on both occasions and Estonia lost with 5-0 in Zenica, and Cyprus with 2-0. Coach Bazdarevic performed with a very similar composition in those two matches and that was not a mistake, but he experimented in Brussels, where debutant Jajalo totally unexpectedly got a chance in midfield totally unexpected, and Bicakcic was on the right back. But it is very unlikely that he repeats the same mistake now, with the proviso that that Kolasinac is having some problems, so he might miss the match, while Vranjes and Medunjanin are also not completely healthy and ready. The injured Besic is still out of action.

Probable lineups Bosnia and Herzegovina: Begovic – O.Vranjes, Sunjic, Spahic, Kolasinac (Zukanovic) – Susic, Medunjanin – Visca, Pjanic, Lulic – Dzeko

Greece vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina PICK

Although it seems that this could be a very strong match, one point is not enough for the Greeks and they have to look for a victory. A draw is good for Bosnia and Herzegovina, but if they receive a goal, they will have to charge for all or nothing, because defeat would get them further away from the World Cup. That is why we believe that we will see goal on both sides of the field, unlike the last duel between these two teams in Athens.

Pick: both teams to score
