Brose Bamberg vs. Barcelona / Euro League – Bamberg and Barcelona are meeting in the 16th round of Euro League and it will be a total of eight times in this competition, but in the past seven duels six times in praise of Barca. The Spanish team, despite the triumph at home in the first duel this season, is entering the second part of the season with a score of 7-8, and only one victory more than in the German championship. Begins: 05.01.2017. – 20:00 CET

Brose Bamberg

Bamberg has last season, mainly because of good games at home, reached the Top 16, which ended with the score 7-7 and did not win playoffs. Last season, they played 12 matches at home and lost only two, and, among others, won one match in the Top 16 against Barcelona. However, they were already defeated three times as hosts this season. True, those were very tight defeats by Panathenaic 83:84, Red Star 78:79 and CSKA88:90, but, after the defeat by CSKA, they celebrated four times in the next five matches in December.

They also made their first, but a lot of convincing away triumphs – at Maccabi (85:70) and in the last round against Galatasaray (90:75). They celebrated at home against far more expensive teams Anadolu Efes (91-83) and Olympiacos (82:68), while they were only defeated by Real Madrid. These four victories have brought them back in the game for playoffs, and their power forward, Italian Melli, with effect from 15.6 points, eight rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.2 steals and one block, took the title of the Most Valuable Player in December (MVP). It seems they finally got used to playing without Wanameker, who last summer went to play for Darussafaka. In the second part they brought a new player, guard McNeal from Aris.

Probable lineups Brose Bamberg: Zisis, Strelnieks, Miller, Theis, Melli

Barcelona

After three away defeats (Anadolu Efes, CSKA and Baskonia), Barca won the last two Euro league duels, both of which were played at home (Armani Milano and Darussafaka). More importantly, Navarro has recovered a little earlier as well as Claver and Dolleman, which opens up more room for rotation for their coach Bartzokas. The players of Zaragoza have felt this best on their skin, which they easily defeated in the last round of the Spanish league at home (86:75) despite the fact that they lost the last period with 11:25.

They scored as many as 15 out of 33 attempts for three points and had a very good 21 assists and Koponen and Tomic with 18 points were the most effective. Insufficiently prepared Navarro and Holmes did not play, and Rice has played only 14 minutes, which indicates that Bartzokas wanted to keep freshness for this, for them, a very important Euro League match. On the injured list are Lawal and Ribas, who underwent surgery, and Perperoglou, who has injured his thigh muscle, but they should be back in February. Rice is with 15.1 points and 5.2 assists the first name in Barca (index 13), but with 10 points and 4.9 rebounds statistically Tomic is the best (index 14.5)

Probable lineups Barcelona: Rice, Navarro, Vezenkov, Claver, Tomic

Brose Bamberg vs. Barcelona PICK

Interestingly, the German champion was a lot  more efficient than Barca with 81.3 points, which achieves an average of 72.1 points per game. Barca, however, receives much less 74.5 points, while Bamberg receives 81.1. Bamberg has an index of 87.5, and Barca 83.1. This could be a game in which Barca will make their third away triumph, but we still suggest a handicap on the Spanish team.
