Borussia M'gladbach vs. VfL Wolfsburg / Bundesliga – It can be said that the two teams are two biggest disappointments in the Bundesliga as it was expected from both Borussia and Wolfsburg to fight for European positions, even one that leads to the Champions League but instead both teams are positioned in the lower part of the standings and are closer to the drop zone. Wolfsburg even had been in it but last Saturday they finally won and moved up. They have just three points fewer than Borussia, which was defeated on Saturday to Augsburg away. Borussia still hasn’t triumphed outside its stadium, while Wolfsburg won for the first time at home in previous round. In two previous seasons whoever played at home it won, and for example their match played last year in Monchengladbach ended as Borussia’s victory 2-0. Begins: 20.12.2016 – 20:00 CET
Borussia lost on Saturday the sixth away match this season and overall it won just one point outside their stadium, which is very week achievement and one of main reasons why they are positioned in lower part of the standings. Team from M’gladbach doesn’t do much better at home but it is still far better than away. Two rounds ago Borussia had ended a long series without victories when it defeated Mainz in front of its fans 1-0, but it again played badly against Augsburg away and lost by 1-0. Interestingly, Borussia received a goal in the same minute when they scored against Mainz, 15 minutes before the final whistle.
Coach Schubert had made changes in the starting line-up after match against Mainz; Jantschke couldn’t be see in defence, Stindl was ill, while Kramar played in midfield. From before are injured Traore, F. Johnson and Herrmann, while now Kramar joined them on the list, but Stindl has recovered and is supposed to play. The defence will probably stay the same, although Schubert has reverted to formation with four defenders, in which left winger Wendt plays more offensively.
Probable lineups Borussia M'gladbach: Sommer – Korb, A. Chistensen, Vestergaard, Elvedi – Strobl, Dahoud – Hazard, Wendt – Stindl, Raffael
The Wolves had finally managed to win at home in previous rounds, which was Wolfsburg’s first triumph from the beginning of season. The fact reveals enough how bad the season is for Wolfsburg, despite absence of European obligations that might have drain their strength. Simply, they struggle in each and every match, where even change of coach didn’t bring expected improvement. Out of first seven matches played at home they lost five and drew two, and scored just four goals. Wolfsburg didn’t play that badly away matches and they won two, on top of two draws, so they hope to make something more at this unpleasant away match.
They had many problems against Eintracht on Saturday and the visitors even missed a penalty awarded in the second halftime. Stopper Bruma had brought three valuable points for his team and with them the pressure has lessened. In previous round they faced Bayern in Munich and suffered a heavy defeat of 5-0, after which new changes in the team took place. Knoche, Blaszczykowski and Mayoral ended on the bench, while Luiz Gustavo, Seguin and returnee Draxler got chance. Coach Ismael will probably not make new changes in the starting line-up for this match.
Probable lineups VfL Wolfsburg: Benaglio – Bruma, Luiz Gustavo, R. Rodriguez – Guilavogui – D. Caligiuri, Seguin, Arnold, Gerhardt, Draxler – M. Gomez
Borussia M'gladbach – VfL Wolfsburg PICK
Both teams play below expectations but it is evident that Borussia is much better at home than away and that is reason why we expect their triumph. Wolfsburg won in previous round but after many problems and thanks to a lot of luck, so we don’t believe that are capable to play a good match in M’gladbach.
